Where Can I Get the HerpeSelect HSV Test?
HerpeSelect HSV tests are performed by Focus Diagnostics
reference laboratory, Quest Diagnostics, and a number of other
quality laboratories throughout the US. Many laboratories offer
the HerpeSelect test by name. Other laboratories use HerpeSelect
test kits but offer the test using a general methodology description,
such as type-specific HSV type-1 and HSV type-2 ELISA. It is important to
speak to the director of the infectious disease laboratory to confirm
that the test they offer is, in fact, HerpeSelect.
Several older
HSV serology tests are still on the market and while labeled type-specific,
they do not accurately differentiate between HSV type-1 and HSV type-2. It
is important that you make certain the serology test you request
is:
- Type specific for HSV type-1 and HSV type-2
- Glycoprotein
G-based technology, as referenced in the kit insert
- FDA-cleared
for use with sexually active adults and pregnant women
- Patients
should contact their healthcare provider about getting tested
for herpes simplex type-specific antibodies.
